Click on all titles and photographs to experience the alternative to most vacation destinations encumbered by commercialism and overcrowding. The Moorings New Harbor is 8 completely renovated and private apartments in historic homes. Guests must be 18+ and no pets are allowed. The Owens, The Poolside and The Monhegan Apartments, New Harbor, are now available for weekend rentals.

Our GUEST APARTMENTS (click on each one to your left) eclipse and redefine the old style vacation rentals of the mid-coast area which through benign neglect or poor maintenance have become relics of a bygone era. We are rated Number 1 on Trip Advisor New Harbor! See reviews

We are constantly improving our facilities and services and are proud to announce the completion of The Gatehouse. Guests have been renting this updated 3-bedroom home which overlooks both the newly uncovered rocky ledges, THE MOORINGS and beautiful New Harbor. (See pictures below.) The dramatic site of the Gatehouse is already attracting artists: an artist from Chicago and Sarasota, Norton Rock, spending a week painting our ledges, commented: "This setting is the most magnificent juxtaposition of natural 'rock-bound' terrain and 'man made' building". See the artist's watercolor and its realization in the following photographs: “View The Gatehouse From The Road”. The Billiards Room (a former garage) is completed. We respectfully and humbly submit our GUEST TESTIMONIALS on our website .

For a complete understanding of the Moorings we suggest touring the entire website.

Historical Perspective

There is no place in the United States with more historicity than the Pemaquid
-Monhegan Region of Maine.
Monhegan is the farthest possession of the United States and the closest land mass to Europe.(Read our Monhegan History on this site.) When staying at the Moorings it is like a visit to the true beginnings of this great country. It predates Plymouth Plantation. The first landfall of John Cabot was 1494. The strongest verification of visitors to the New World was Giovanni da Verrazano in 1525. In 1603, Martin Pring anchored at Monhegan and described the area in his log the exact latitude of 43/one-half degrees north and wrote that Monhegan and the surrounding area "is part of America". July 12, 1625 was the date of the first legally executed deed recorded between John Brown and Samoset, the Indian. When staying at the Moorings you will be staying in historically significant buildings:
Cottage Mansard - 1875
Colonial - 1874
Victorian - 1895
Bungalow - 1924
